Residential Tree Trimming—Tactics To Utilize

Jose Wheeler

If you want your property's trees to grow normally and look their best, trimming is an activity you should perform consistently. Here are a few tactics that can give you desirable results.

Find a Cutting Instrument You're Comfortable With

You must use the appropriate cutting instrument to safely and conveniently cut branches/limbs from your trees. You can use several tools, including pole saws, chainsaws, and hand saws. Ultimately, find a cutting tool that you feel the most comfortable with and can use in a controlled manner the entire time.

It might be a powerful chainsaw because of its automated design. You can use it to cut through thick branches with ease. Whereas for smaller branches, you might feel better with a hand saw that you move back and forth manually. Assess the situation and then choose a relevant cutting instrument that's accessible.

Assess Each Tree Thoroughly Prior to Cutting

Before you cut into any branch, it's important to carefully assess trees on your property. Look at their shape and size to determine the best trimming approach to get desirable results. If you take a personal approach with each tree assessment, you can ensure trimming works out for the best.

It helps to make notes, too, during these assessments. For instance, you can write down diseased limbs you see and portions of the tree that have grown too much. Strategizing will ultimately help you trim trees in a systematic, efficient manner.

Remove Diseased and Damaged Portions First

After assessing each tree on your property, it's wise to trim diseased and damaged portions first. You can keep your trees healthy because disease won't be able to spread throughout them as easily. You also want to remove them first because they're a safety risk to you and your family since they could fall at any point.

Diseased and damaged tree portions may not be that hard to bring down, but you need to be careful about how you cut them. As mentioned above, use the right cutting instrument and most importantly, protect your head with a hard hat. You must prevent a severe head injury just in case a diseased branch falls on you.

Something every homeowner needs to do if there are trees on their property is trim them. It keeps them healthy and looking great, and you won't struggle with tree maintenance if you know what tools and techniques to use the entire time.

About Me
Technology Makes Landscaping Easier Than Ever

When I was young, I loved helping my mother in the garden. Our yard was filled with plants and flowers that she kept in immaculate condition. Once I was an adult and bought my first home, I learned that there was much more to landscaping a yard than I ever imagined! After a little trial and error planting a few flowers in my yard that died quickly, I realized the technology that is available to aspiring gardeners makes trial and error a thing of the past. After I found out what my "hardiness zone" was, I realized I was planting flowers made for much cooler climates, and I played around with software that let me design my yard very easily! I learned a lot throughout the experience, so I thought I would share my tips with everyone who needs them. Come back often to check out my new tips!
